Roadrunners baseball advances in postseason play with Sub Regional victory

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) baseball team fell 15-8 to 15th-ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College in the Roadrunners regular season finale in Kansas City, Kansas on Tuesday, April 30.

Sophomore pitcher/third baseman Jayden Little recorded a team-high four hits, including two doubles and one RBI. Sophomore first baseman/third baseman Carter Jenkins added three hits, including a double, two runs scored and one RBI. Freshman utility player/pitcher Dalton Miller also added three hits, including a double, two runs scored and one RBI. Sophomore outfielder Logan Miller pitched in with two hits and two runs scored. Sophomore outfielder Sam Russo had two hits and two RBIs. Freshman outfielder/first baseman Dayne Wimberly added a hit, a run scored and one RBI. Freshman middle infielder Sam Paule scored a run and stole a base. As a team, SFCC put together 15 hits in the game.

The Roadrunners used six pitchers in the game. Sophomore pitcher Andrew Brakensiek got the start and gave up five runs on two hits, walked two and struck out one in one inning. Sophomore pitcher Brandon Hull came out of the bullpen and pitched one inning, gave up two runs on two hits, struck out one and walked one to earn the loss.

May 3 St. Charles Community College Region 16 Sub Regional at St. Charles

SFCC split the first two games of a Region 16 Sub Regional with St. Charles Community College at St. Charles on Friday, May 3, winning the first game 11-9 before losing game two 10-1 in seven innings.

In game one, WImbley had three of SFCC's 14 hits. Wimberly had one home run and four RBIs. Dalton Miller also had three hits and scored two runs. Little pitched had three hits and one run scored. Russo hit a home run, drove in four runs, and scored two. Logan Miller doubled and scored two runs. Jenkins also scored two runs. Freshman outfielder Caleb Briggs, sophomore middle infielder Sam Paule and freshman catcher Matt Goldasich each drove in a run in the game. Paule and Briggs each recorded a stolen base.

Sophomore pitcher Carter DeGondea got the start on the mound in the game for SFCC. DeGondea pitched 2 2/3 innings, gave up seven runs on six hits, struck out three and walked two. Freshman pitcher Chase Schnieders came out of the bullpen to pitch the final 6 1/3 innings, gave up two runs on seven hits, struck out six and walked one to earn the victory in relief.

In game two, the SFCC offense was held to just one run courtesy of Russo on an RBI from Paule. The Roadrunners only put together four hits as a team. Freshman catcher Malichi Antle had two hits. Wimberly added a double. Dalton Miller had one hit.

Sophomore pitcher Tait Robertson got the start and gave up nine runs on 10 hits, struck out seven and walked three in 4 2/3 innings to earn the loss.

May 4 St. Charles Community College Region 16 Sub Regional at St. Charles

SFCC (26-28) won the third and deciding game of the series 12-5 in St. Charles on Saturday, May 4.

SFCC produced 16 hits and got solid pitching to secure the victory. The SFCC offense was led by Jenkins with a home run and three doubles. Jenkins scored four runs and drove in one. Dalton Miller recorded three hits, including a double, two runs scored and a run batted in. Little added three hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Briggs had two hits, including a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Logan Miller had two hits, one RBI and one stolen base. Paule stole two bases in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Keith Piepmeier got the start and gave up two runs on four hits, and walked one in 1 1/3 innings. Freshman pitcher Parker Lambeth came out of the bullpen to pitch 3 2/3 innings, gave up two runs on three hits, and struck out four to earn the victory in relief.

SFCC will take on Crowder College on Thursday, May 9 at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin in the Region 16 Baseball Tournament.
