Roadrunners fall in Sub-Regional

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners (22-24) baseball team saw their 2022 season come to an end with a pair of losses to St. Charles Community College 2-1 and 11-1 in St. Charles on Saturday, May 7.

In the opening game, St. Charles scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, before SFCC cut the lead in half with a single run in the top of the seventh inning but, would get no closer.

SFCC was held to three hits – one from sophomore infielder Brandon Stahlman; one from Brayden McGinnis who recorded a hit and scored the only run for SFCC; and one from sophomore catcher Hamilton Anderson whose RBI drove in McGinnis.

Freshman pitcher Chase Carson got the start and pitched five innings, allowed two runs on eight hits, and struck out five. Christian Whiting pitched the final three innings in relief, gave up three hits, and struck out three.

In game two, St. Charles scored eight runs in the top of the fourth inning and added three more in the sixth. SFCC answered with a single run in the bottom the sixth.

Sophomore infielder Austin Warkins and sophomore catcher/outfielder Zach Dillman each had one hit. Dillman's double drove in sophomore outfielder Zeke Henson for SFCC's only score.

Freshman pitcher Jack Lawton got the start and pitched one inning, gave up one hit, struck out two, and walked three. Sophomore pitcher Roy Holcomb pitched two innings in relief, gave up five runs (two earned runs) on three hits, and struck out five. Freshman Zach Buschschulte pitched one inning, gave up three runs (zero earned runs) on three hits. Redshirt freshman Carson Fewell pitched one inning, gave up three runs on six hits, and struck out one. Freshman Ben Haug pitched one inning and struck out three batters.
