Roadrunners baseball continues season

April 9 Kansas City Kansas Community College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners lost a hard-fought game to 18th ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College 6-4 inside Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field on Tuesday, April 9 in Sedalia.

Freshman first baseman/third baseman Tanner Grant had a pair of hits and a run scored. Freshman middle infielder Will Muench also had two hits, including a double, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore third baseman Eli Cheaney recorded a hit, scored a run, and drove in a run. Sophomore outfielder Sam Russo had a hit and an RBI. Freshman middle infielder Sam Paule scored one run.

Sophomore pitcher Andrew Brakensiek got the start and gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits, walked four and struck out three in four innings in the loss.

April 11 St. Charles Community College at Sedalia

SFCC defeated St. Charles Community College 8-6 in game one of the Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference doubleheader. St. Charles bounced back to win game two 7-6 at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field on Thursday, April 11 in Sedalia.

In game one, the SFCC offense made the most of its four hits. Sophomore first baseman/third baseman Jayden Little had the only extra base hit for SFCC, a double to go along with two RBIs. Sophomore first baseman/third baseman Carter Jenkins had one hit, a run scored, and one RBI. Russo had a hit and an RBI. Freshman outfielder Caleb Briggs had one hit and two runs scored. Briggs and sophomore outfielder Logan Miller each stole a base in the game. Freshman first baseman/ outfielder Dayne Wimberly scored two runs in the contest. SFCC capitalized on seven walks in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Carter DeGondea got the start and gave up six runs on eight hits, struck out six and walked four in five innings to earn the victory. Freshman pitcher Parker Lambeth pitched the final two innings of the game, gave up no runs on no hits and struck out one to earn the save.

In game two, Miller had a pair of hits, including a double and a stolen base. Miller also scored a run. Briggs had two hits and one run scored. Jenkins had a home run and drove in two runs in the contest. Freshman catcher Malichi Antle doubled and drove in two runs in the game. Wimberly and Muench drove in a run each.

Freshman pitcher Chase Schnieders got the start gave up four runs (three earned runs) on five hits, struck out five and walked three in four innings to get the pitching loss.

April 13 St. Charles Community College at Cottleville

SFCC (20-24, 9-15 in Region 16) lost a pair of Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference games to St. Charles Community College 6-4 and 12-2 in six innings on Saturday, April 13 in Cottleville.

In game one, the SFCC offense was held to just three hits. Miller, Briggs and Antle recorded one hit each in the game. Miller also scored a run and drove in two. Jenkins and Wimberly each drove in a run in the game. Briggs added a hit and scored two runs. Miller and Wimberly each stole one base in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Tait Robertson got the start and gave up five runs (three earned runs) on six hits and struck out eight in four innings to earn the loss.

In game two, the SFCC offense was held to five hits. Miller recorded a hit and a run scored. Russo and Jenkins had one hit each in the game. Utility player/pitcher Dalton Miller had a hit and an RBI in the game. Sophomore middle infielder Ryan Retone added one hit and one run.

Sophomore pitcher Keith Piepmeier pitched 2 2/3 innings, gave up five runs on five hits, struck out three and walked one to earn the loss.
