Roadrunners bounce back to close the week with doubleheader sweep

March 19 East Central College at Union, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners fell 14-4 in six innings in a Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game to East Central College in Union, Missouri on Tuesday, March 19.

Sophomore outfielder Sam Russo led SFCC offensively with three hits, including a home run and two RBIs. Sophomore outfielder Logan Miller recorded a hit and a stolen base. Freshman outfielder/first baseman Dayne Wimberly also had a hit, scored a run, and stole a base. Sophomore first baseman/third baseman Carter Jenkins registered a hit. Sophomore pitcher/third baseman Jayden Little had a hit and scored a run. Freshman middle infielder Sam Paule scored a run. Freshman catcher Beck Jones added a hit.

Freshman pitcher Parker Lambeth got the start for SFCC and pitched one inning and gave up two runs on three hits to earn the loss.

March 21 Jefferson College at Sedalia

SFCC lost a pair of games 10-0 in six innings and 11-1 in nine innings to the Jefferson College Vikings at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field on Thursday, March 21 in Sedalia. The doubleheader was part of the Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference schedule for both teams.

In game one, the Roadrunners offense was held to five hits, including a pair from Little. Wimberly, Jenkins and Russo had one hit each in the game. SFCC made three errors in the game.

Freshman pitcher Chase Schnieders got the start for SFCC and pitched 5 1/3 innings, gave up nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits. Schnieders struck out four and walked three to earn the loss.

In game two, the SFCC offense was held to six hits, including a double from Miller. Jenkins had a pair of hits. Russo had a pair of hits and a run scored. Paule had a hit and stole a base. Freshman middle infielder Will Muench drove in the only run of the game for SFCC with a sacrifice fly.

Sophomore pitcher Carter DeGondea got the start on the mound for SFCC and pitched seven innings, gave up seven runs on eight hits, struck out seven and walked five.

"We didn't play very good baseball today," said Roadrunners Head Coach Jud Kindle. "We got out hit and out pitched. The good thing about baseball is that you don't have to wait very long to play again. We still have a lot of games left in the season, but we must figure things out as a team right now. We're not doing a lot of things right. We were doing some things right early in the season and we were winning some games. We have some work to do."

March 23 Jefferson College at Hillsboro

SFCC (15-16, 4-8 in Region 16) swept a pair of Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference games from Jefferson College 4-2 and 9-2 on Saturday, March 23 in Hillsboro, Missouri.

In game one, SFCC made the most of their four hits. Miller contributed a single and a run scored. Paule had a hit and a run scored. Freshman catcher Malichi Antle contributed a hit and an RBI. Sophomore middle infielder Ryan Retone pitched in with a hit and a run scored. Russo also scored a run.

Sophomore pitcher Tait Robertson got the start and pitched six innings, gave up two runs (one earned), on five hits, struck out six and walked two. Redshirt freshman Dawson Torpey picked up the save in one inning with one walk and one strikeout.

In game two, Jenkins had two hits, including a home run and three RBIs. Paule hit a double and a home run and drove in three runs. Russo had a pair of hits(including a double), a stolen base, and two runs. Sophomore outfielder Devyn Wright had a pair of hits, including a double. Miller doubled, scored twice, and stole two bases. Little doubled, scored a run and drove in a run.

Sophomore pitcher Keith Piepmeier got the start for SFCC and pitched seven innings, gave up two runs on five hits, struck out four and walked three to earn the win.
