Roadrunners open Region season

March 10 Crowder College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners opened their Region 16 schedule with a pair of losses to ninth-ranked Crowder College, 18-2 in five innings and 13-4 in eight innings at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field on Sunday, March 10 in Sedalia.

In game one, sophomore middle infielder Ryan Retone led the SFCC offense with a home run and two RBIs. Freshman middle infielder Sam Paule recorded a double. Freshman outfielder/first baseman Dayne Wimberly and freshman first baseman/third baseman Tanner Grant also recorded a hit each. Freshman catcher Beck Jones scored a run.

Sophomore pitcher Carter DeGondea got the start for SFCC and pitched 2 1/3 innings, gave up 11 runs (10 earned) on nine hits, struck out two and walked four to earn the loss.

In game two, sophomore first baseman/third baseman Carter Jenkins had a pair of hits, including a home run and a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Wimberly had a hit, along with sophomore outfielder Sam Russo. Sophomore pitcher/third baseman Jayden Little had a hit and scored a run. Freshman catcher Malichi Antle also had a hit and scored a run.

Freshman pitcher Chase Schnieders got the start in game two for SFCC. Schnieders pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up five runs on seven hits, and struck out 10 in the loss.

March 11 Crowder College at Neosho

SFCC dropped a pair of games to 10th ranked Crowder College 8-2 in seven innings and 15-7 in seven innings in Neosho on Monday, March 11.

In game one, Wimberly had a pair of hits and a run scored. Antle also had a pair of hits, including a double. Jenkins scored a run. Russo had a pair of RBIs. Paule added a double. The SFCC offense was held to just eight hits.

Sophomore pitcher Tait Robertson got the start for SFCC. Robertson pitched four innings, gave up two runs on five hits, struck out six and walked two. Robertson was given the pitching loss.

In game two, Paule had a pair of hits, including a double and a run scored. Wimberly hit a home run and drove in three runs. Jenkins also hit a home run, to go along with a double and three runs scored. Jenkins drove in a run. Grant also contributed a double, a run scored and an RBI. Freshman catcher Kyden McMain tripled in the game and drove in a run. Sophomore outfielder Caleb Casto also drove in a run.

Sophomore pitcher Jaden Kolb got the start on the mound for SFCC. Kolb pitched one inning, gave up one run and walked four. Little pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief, gave up four runs on two hits, and walked two. Little was given loss in relief.

March 15 Mineral Area College at Sedalia

SFCC lost a pair of hard-fought Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference games to the Mineral Area College Cardinals 4-1 in game one and 6-5 in 11 innings in game two on Friday, March 15 at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field in Sedalia.

In game one, the SFCC offense was held to just six hits. Sophomore outfielder Logan Miller had a pair of hits, including a double. Paule had a double and a run scored. Grant also added a double. Wimberly recorded a hit in the game Antle drove in the only run for SFCC in the game with a sacrifice fly.

Schnieders got the start on the mound for SFCC. Schnieders pitched 4 1/3 innings, gave up four runs on six hits, struck out seven and walked six. Schnieders was given the pitching loss.

In game two, freshman pitcher/utility player Dalton Miller led SFCC with three hits in the game, including a double and an RBI. Logan Miller had a pair of hits, a run scored and stole four bases. Jenkins also had a pair of hits, including a run scored and an RBI. Sophomore outfielder Sam Russo doubled in the game. Antle drove in a run. Wimberly had a hit and a run scored in the game. Freshman middle infielder/outfielder Grant Lambeth had a hit and run scored in the game. As a team, SFCC recorded 11 hits in the game.

DeGondea got the start for SFCC. DeGondea pitched seven innings, gave up 11 hits, three runs, (two earned runs) and struck out five. Freshman pitcher Parker Lambeth came out of the bullpen to pitch two innings, gave up two runs, on four hits and struck out two. Sophomore pitcher Andrew Brakensiek pitched two innings in relief, gave up one run on two hits and struck out three. Brakensiek was given the pitching loss.

March 16 Mineral Area College at Sedalia

SFCC (13-13, 2-6 in Region 16) swept a pair of Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference games from the Mineral Area College Cardinals 5-3 in seven innings in game one and 10-0 in five innings in game two at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field on Saturday, March 16 in Sedalia.

In game one, Wimberly had a pair of hits, including a triple, a run scored and an RBI. Antle hit a home run. Grant recorded an RBI. Logan Miller scored a run and Jenkins also scored a run. Jenkins also stole a base.

Robertson got the start for SFCC. He pitched 6 1/3 innings, gave up three unearned runs on eight hits and struck out three. Redshirt freshman pitcher Dawson Torpey pitched the final two-thirds of an inning to earn the save.

In game two, Jenkins recorded a double and a home run, scored three times and drove in a pair of RBIs. Russo had a pair of hits including a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Little contributed a double, a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Dalton Miller also drove in a run.

Sophomore pitcher Keith Piepmeier took the mound for SFCC. Piepmeier tossed a one hit complete game shutout and struck out three.
