Lady Roadrunners lose defensive struggle

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners (20-6, 5-5 in Region 16) lost a hard-fought 63-45 Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game to the Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals on Saturday night, February 24 in Park Hills.

SFCC led 18-17 at the end of the first quarter. It was a back-and-forth game throughout. Mineral Area took a 25-23 advantage with about six minutes remaining until halftime. The Lady Roadrunners fought back to take a 30-29 lead at halftime.

The game was tied with less than five minutes remaining in the third quarter. Mineral Area turned up their defense and were able to get their offense going. The Lady Cardinals took a 44-37 lead with about eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. SFCC struggled to score in the final quarter and Mineral Area was able to seal the important victory.

Sophomore forward Quincenia Jackson registered a double-double with 15 points and 19 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Freshman guard Kimora McClure had a team-high four assists. Freshman guard La'Tommas Johnson-Nash led the team in steals with two.
