Brewer makes college choice

Lady Roadrunners sophomore guard Maya Brewer has decided where she will continue her academic and athletic career. Brewer put pen to paper in a signing ceremony at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 8. The North Kansas City native signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Wichita State University in Kansas, an NCAA Division I school.

"On my visit (to WSU), I just felt like it was a really good fit for me," said Brewer. "The program is very family oriented and the environment was very good. They have a very good criminal justice program. They have a great women's basketball program, and the coaching staff is amazing. I know that I can come in and produce right away."

Brewer helped the Lady Roadrunners to a 19-9 record and a Region 16 tournament semifinal appearance as a freshman. She averaged 8.4 points per game while playing in all 28 games. Brewer finished third on the team in rebounds per game with 3.9 and averaged 1.3 steals. Brewer earned second-team All-Missouri Community College Athletic Conference honors last season and was named to the NJCAA Region 16 all-region second team.

"I see Maya having some great years at Wichita State," said Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "I think that Maya's versatility will develop even more at Wichita State. Her best basketball is ahead of her. I am very excited for her to continue her career at Wichita State."
