Lady Roadrunners defeat Mineral Area

The Lady Roadrunners (19-8, 8-2 in Region 16, 8-2 in the MCCAC) wrapped up the regular season with a 79-68 victory over the Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals Feb. 25 in Park Hills. With this win, SFCC is seeded second in the upcoming Region 16 championship and a Missouri Community College Athletic Conference championship and a Co-Region 16 regular season championship.

The Lady Cardinals led 21-14 at the end of the first quarter, but SFCC stormed back to outscore Mineral 25-11 in the second quarter to take a 39-32 lead at halftime.

"Our transition game was our strength," said Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "We out-rebounded them during that stretch and were able to push the ball up the court and hit key shots while we were running in transition."

In the third quarter Mineral Area cut the SFCC lead to four, but the Lady Roadrunners used the three-point shot to extend the lead to 57-48.

Sophomore guard Ahjana Oakes scored a team-high 18 points. Freshman guard/forward Catie Kaifes contributed 11. Freshman guard Maya Brewer pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds and led in steals with three. Sophomore center Kendra Boone registered a team-high two blocked shots. Freshman guard Ren'Cia Rolling dished out a team-high eight assists.

The Lady Roadrunners get a bye in the quarterfinal round of the Region 16 championship. SFCC will play the winner of the game between Jefferson College and Crowder College at 3 p.m. March 3 in the semifinal round at Jason Gym on the Lincoln University campus in Jefferson City.
