Lady Raiders defeat Lady Roadrunners

The Lady Roadrunners traveled to Poplar Bluff on Feb. 4 to take on the Three Rivers Community College Lady Raiders. SFCC (14-7, 4-2 in Region 16, 5-2 in MCCAC) fell 75-64.

The Lady Roadrunners trailed 21-8 at the end of the first quarter. Three Rivers pushed the advantage to 27-12; the 15-point lead was the largest of the contest for either team. SFCC went on a run to trim the lead to 35-27 at halftime.

With less than three minutes in the final quarter, the Lady Roadrunners cut the deficit to seven at 67-60 after freshman guard/forward Catie Kaifes hit a three-point basket.

"We went to a zone defense, but Three Rivers executed well against it," said Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "They missed shots, and we rebounded the ball well. But Three Rivers had players who stepped up and contributed. I give them credit for that."

Freshman guard Maya Brewer led three Lady Roadrunners in double figure scoring with 16 points, including three three-point baskets. Sophomore guard Ahjana Oakes and freshman guard Ren'Cia Rolling contributed 11 points each. Oakes also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Danae' Cole  dished out a team-high five assists. Kaifes led in blocked shots with two. Rolling led in steals with two.

SFCC will go on the road Feb. 11 to take on Arkansas Baptist College. Tipoff is 3 p.m.
