Lady Roadrunners fall to Lady Raiders

The Lady Roadrunners opened their Region 16 schedule on Friday afternoon, Jan. 13, hosting the Three Rivers Community College Lady Raiders from Poplar Bluff at the Davis Center. The game was a back-and-forth contest featuring 11 lead changes and eight ties. Three Rivers escaped with a 74-72 victory. 

SFCC (10-6, 0-1 in Region 16, 1-1 MCCAC) took a 9-2 lead in the first quarter. The seven-point advantage was the largest held by either team in the game. 

After making a pair of free throws, Three Rivers tied the game at 72 with about 18 seconds remaining. SFCC had an opportunity for the last shot of the game, but the inbound pass was thrown away. 

The Lady Raiders missed a layup on their final possession but were able to secure the offensive rebound and score with nine seconds to go in the game. SFCC was unable to score on the final possession. 

Sophomore guard Alexis Cowan led in scoring with 17 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Danaé Cole added 16 points. Sophomore center Kendra Boone led in blocked shots with four. Cole and freshman guard Maya Brewer tied for the lead in steals with two. Five Lady Roadrunners tied for the team lead in assists with two. 

SFCC will travel to Moberly Jan. 18, to take on the Moberly Area Community College Lady Greyhounds in another Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game. Tipoff is 5 p.m.
