Lady Roadrunners fall at Fort Scott

The 18th ranked Lady Roadrunners traveled to Fort Scott, Kansas, Nov. 8 to take on the Fort Scott Community College Lady Greyhounds. SFCC (1-2) could not overcome a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit and lost 59-56.

"We made a run in the fourth quarter," said Lady Roadrunners Assistant Basketball Coach Rich Biddulph. "We cut the lead to two points with about 20 seconds remaining in the game. We played until the clock got down to 10 seconds. Because we weren't into anything offensively, I called our last time out and had a sideline out of bounds play. We missed the shot off a drive to the basket and had our hands on an offensive rebound but couldn't corral it. Fort Scott got the ball; we had to foul, and Fort Scott made one of two free throw attempts."

Freshman guard/forward Catie Kaifes led three Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 13 points. Sophomore guard Alexis Cowan contributed 12 points, and sophomore guard Danae' Cole added 11. Sophomore center Kendra Boone pulled down a team-high six rebounds and registered three blocked shots. Cole garnered a team-high four assists. Sophomore guard Aaliyah Cowan registered a team-high three steals.

Coach Biddulph was proud of the way his team battled back in the fourth quarter.

"We are going to use this as a learning experience and get better from it," said Biddulph. "I'm very confident in our team. We're ready to get back to work and go down to Three Rivers this weekend."

The Lady Roadrunners will travel to Poplar Bluff to participate in the Lady Raider Classic Nov. 11-12. SFCC will take on Shawnee Community College at 5 p.m. Friday and Wabash Valley College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
