Lady Roadrunners defeat Lincoln University

The Lady Roadrunners wrapped up the preseason portion of their schedule on Oct. 30 with a game against Lincoln University in Jefferson City. SFCC defeated Lincoln by a score of 62-57.

"We got off to a decent start," said Lady Roadrunners Assistant Basketball Coach Rich Biddulph. "We were able to hit a couple shots early. Lincoln made a run late in the second quarter to take a 26-21 lead into halftime even though we led for most of the first half."

Coach Biddulph was very happy with the way the Lady Roadrunners responded to the adjustments the coaching staff made at halftime.

"Our sophomore leadership really paid off in the second half," said Biddulph. "In the third quarter and in the beginning of the fourth quarter Kendra Boone scored 15 points. She did a good job inside. We really executed our half-court sets well. Aaliyah Cowan also was instrumental in giving us a spark. Alexis Cowan also did a good; she played point guard the majority of the second half. Coach Bucher found a sophomore heavy lineup in the second half and stuck with it."

Boone scored a team-high 19 points. Catie Kaifes contributed 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Alexis Cowan chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds. Aaliyah Cowan added six points and five rebounds. Aaliyah and Alexis each dished out four assists.

"I was happy that we were able to respond to being down at halftime," said Biddulph. "We were tested. It was a perfect second half to lead us into our last four practices before the season opener."

The Lady Roadrunners will take on John Wood Community College to open the season and their portion of the McDonald's Classic at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. On Saturday at 5:30 p.m., the preseason 18th ranked Lady Roadrunners will play Kirkwood Community College, the seventh-ranked team in NJCCA Division II.
