Lady Roadrunners fall at Crowder

The 15th ranked Lady Roadrunners traveled to Neosho on Wednesday night, Feb. 10, to take on the Crowder College Lady Roughriders. SFCC (19-5, 5-2 in Region 16) fell by a score of 69-56.

SFCC began the game with an offensive rebound and basket from sophomore forward Thelma "TuTu" Williams. At the end of the first quarter, Crowder led 14-10. The Lady Roughriders extended their lead 30-22 at halftime.

The Lady Roadrunners trimmed the deficit to two points in the fourth quarter after a basket from freshman center Kendra Boone. However, that was as close as SFCC would get. Crowder went on a 10-2 run to put the game away.

"We didn't come out very excited to play," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "That was a little disheartening because of everything that is at stake. We're still dealing with some injuries and playing kids in positions that they have not have played before. That played a part in it. We didn't have the urgency, energy and drive we needed to win on the road."

Sophomore guard Sierra Clayborn led in scoring with 18 points. Williams contributed 14.

"We're going to work a lot on our rebounding," said Bucher. "We allowed Crowder too many second shots, and we were stagnant offensively."

SFCC will travel to Moberly Area Community College on Saturday, Feb. 13, for another key region and conference matchup against the Lady Greyhounds. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
