Lady Roadrunners open region play with victory against TRCC

The 21st ranked Lady Roadrunners got the second half of the season off on the right foot Saturday, Jan. 9, with a 97-71 victory over the Three Rivers Community College Lady Raiders from Poplar Bluff at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus. SFCC (14-3, 1-0 in Region 16, 1-0 MCCAC) used its pressure defense to force the Lady Raiders into 25 turnovers.

"I thought our depth was the key tonight," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "I rotate a lot of players in and out to keep up our intensity. Usually, it is either the third or fourth quarter when the opposing teams start to lose steam; tonight it was the fourth quarter."

Sophomore guard Sierra Clayborn led five Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 17 points. Sophomore guard Seara Clayborn and freshman guard Danae' Cole contributed 13 points each.

Sophomore guard Ecenur Yurdakul added 12 points. Sophomore guard Zhanesha Dickerson pitched in with 11 points. She also tied for the team lead in rebounds with freshman guard Alexis Cowan pulling down nine each. Cowan and Seara Clayborn tied for team lead in assists with four each. Cowan registered a team-high five steals.

The Lady Roadrunners will continue play with a four-game home stand on Wednesday, Jan. 13, when they host the Moberly Area Community College Lady Greyhounds in another key Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference contest. Tipoff will be 5:30 p.m. from the Davis Multipurpose Center.

"Rebounding is always important," said Bucher in regard to preparing for this match. "We also want to use more of the shot clock to pass the ball around and get better shots."
