Lady Roadrunners Win Fourth Straight Game

The 13th-ranked Lady Roadrunners emerged with an 84-70 victory over the Cloud County Community College Lady Thunderbirds from Concordia, Kansas, Nov. 13 in the opening round of the Stone Laser Imaging Classic in the Fred E Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus.

They got their offense going in the second and third quarters as they outscored Cloudy County 50-36. The Lady Thunderbirds cut the SFCC lead to 10 points with less than two minutes remaining, but SFCC (6-1) held on for the win.

"We really got things moving in the second quarter," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "At times we looked really good, but every time we made a big run we'd turn the ball over, which hurt our chances of extending the lead even more. Eighteen turnovers are too many against a team that really doesn't press you that much. We got the lead up to 23 points and we didn't play very smart at the end of the game, but we found a way to win."

Sophomore guard Zhanesha Dickerson led SFCC in scoring with 20 points. Freshman guard Alexis Cowan scored 11 points. Freshman forward Kiante Johnson and sophomore guard Seara Clayborn tied for the team lead in rebounds with 11. Cowan dished out a team-high four assists. Sophomore guard Ecenur Yurdakul and Dickerson tied for the team lead in steals with two.
