Lady Roadrunners Sweep Three Rivers Classic

The 13th-ranked Lady Roadrunners swept the Three Rivers Classic Nov. 6-7 in Poplar Bluff.

SFCC (4-1) opened its portion of the classic Friday night by defeating the Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors from Mount Carmel, Illinois, 71-55.

"The Wabash game was a very good game," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "They took a one-point lead into halftime. In the third quarter we just exploded offensively, scoring 34 points. We played hard; that third quarter was outstanding."

Sophomore guard Zhanesha Dickerson led in scoring with 27 points on 10 of 15 shooting from the field. Sophomore guard Sierra Clayborn added 12 points. Freshman forward Kiante Johnson pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Freshman center Kendra Boone registered a team-high two blocked shots. Freshman guard Bre'anna Lamar led in steals with three.

On Saturday, SFCC defeated the Kaskaskia College Blue Angels from Centralia, Illinois, 75-51.

"Kaskaskia was shorthanded, playing with only five players, but they played extremely hard," said Bucher. "We had a 10- or 11-point lead at halftime. They played with four players for the last two and a half minutes of the game. We ran the shot clock down and worked on our late-game situations. We were able to play everyone."

Johnson led three Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 20 points on 9 of 12 from the field. Freshman guard Danae' Cole contributed 13 points. Dickerson added 10 points. Boone pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Dickerson dished out a team-high three assists. Clayborn and freshman guard Alexis Cowan tied for the team lead in steals with two.

The Lady Roadrunners will return to action Nov. 10 when they host Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Roadrunners' game against Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
