Lady Roadrunners Sweep McDonald’s Classic

The 13th-ranked Lady Roadrunners got an offensive rebound and basket from sophomore forward Thelma Williams to get SFCC on the scoreboard Oct. 31 in their second game of the McDonald's Classic. It was a lead they never relinquished, defeating the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings from Poteau, Oklahoma, 63-52 in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus.

"We were able to get some good transition baskets early in the game," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "We boxed out well which helped lead to the early transition and easy baskets."

SFCC (2-0) featured a balanced offensive attack in the game with three players in double-figure scoring. Sophomore guard Zhanesha Dickerson led in scoring with a double double including 16 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Freshman center Kendra Boone pitched in with 11 points. Williams added 10. Sophomore guard Ecenur Yurdakul dished out a team-high four assists. Freshman guard Danae' Cole led in steals with three.

Bucher was pleased with the improvement he saw throughout the opening weekend.

"We had some good growth as a team from yesterday to today," said Bucher. "We have a lot of kids who still have to learn what college basketball is all about. Our sophomores have stepped up and played well. We have a lot of players who can step up and lead this team."

The Lady Roadrunners will travel to Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas, Nov. 2 for their first road contest of the season. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
