Lady Roadrunners Open Preseason in Texas

The Lady Roadrunners got their first chance to scrimmage against other teams Oct.11 at the Texas Jamboree presented by Shalin Hoops in Frisco, Texas.

SFCC played three games. The first half of each game was a 24-minute running clock and the second half was a 20-minute running clock. Scores were set back to zero to begin the second half.

The Lady Roadrunners took on Garden City Community College from Garden City, Kansas, in their first scrimmage. Garden City led the entire first half and the Lady Roadrunners were down 14 points. SFCC rebounded to win the second half by eight points.

"Seara and Sierra Clayborn played really well," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "Zhanesha Dickerson and Kiante Johnson also played well and Danae' Cole played hard. We were able to get into a rhythm in the second half. We also played better on the defensive end and our shots started to fall."

In their second scrimmage, SFCC took on Seward County Community College from Liberal, Kansas.

"We were able to jump out on Seward early," said Bucher. "Our speed and athleticism really affected them. We played well on both ends of the floor. I think we were up by 10 points at halftime and by six points in second half. I was very pleased with our post players in this game."

In the final scrimmage, the Lady Roadrunners took on Trinity Valley Community College from Athens, Texas. The two teams were locked in a battle of runs, using an up-tempo offense and pressing defense. Trinity Valley won the first half by 12 points and SFCC led most of the second half.

"Our defensive pressure was good," said Bucher. "We shot the ball well. Trinity Valley made a run to close the second half and the score ended in a tie."

"We got what we wanted out of the scrimmage," said Lady Roadrunners Assistant Coach Rich Biddulph Jr. "We were able to identify things we need to work on in practice, and the scrimmages gave us information that Coach Bucher and I can use to make our team better."

SFCC will return to scrimmage competition Oct. 17 at The Courts in Springfield. The Lady Roadrunners will take on Oklahoma Wesleyan University, Missouri Baptist University and College of the Ozarks.
