Lady Roadrunners Defeat Jefferson College

The 9th-ranked Lady Roadrunners won their 11th game in a row Feb. 18 when they used a big 18-0 run to take control of a tie game and emerge with a 92-61 victory over the Jefferson College Lady Vikings from Hillsboro, Missouri. It was the last home game of the regular season for SFCC (21-5, 9-0 in Region 16, 7-0 in the MCCAC).

"We had to speed up the tempo of the game," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "We called a timeout, and then we were able to boost our momentum and get the game going at pace we needed."

Sophomore center Alecia Cooley led five Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 22 points. She finished off another double double with a team-high 10 rebounds and also led in blocked shots with three. Freshman guard/forward Zhanesha Dickerson contributed 16 points. Freshman guard Sierra Clayborn, sophomore guard Sannayyiah Johnson and freshman guard Maura Skidmore registered 11 points each. Boothe, Skidmore and Dickerson tied for the team lead in assists with three. Boothe led the team in steals with five and Dickerson pitched in with four. The Lady Roadrunners recorded 16 steals as a team.

"We had a very balanced scoring effort," said Bucher. "That has been our forte. We have great depth and can really keep the pressure on our opponents."

SFCC will travel to Mineral Area College Feb. 21 with Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference regular-season championships on the line. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Parks Hills, Missouri.

"We have to run our plays well," said Bucher. "Rebounding is always going to be huge. We have to take care of the basketball and make plays down the stretch."
