Lady Roadrunners Defensive Pressure Stifles Lady Buffaloes

The 23rd-ranked Lady Roadrunners closed out their portion of the 2014 McDonald's Classic Nov. 1 with a 103-56 victory over the Arkansas Baptist College Lady Buffaloes from Little Rock.

SFCC (2-0) held the Lady Buffaloes to single digits for more than 10 minutes during the game and forced Arkansas Baptist into 28 turnovers.

"Our defense was relentless," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "It was all over the court for 40 minutes; there was no letdown. It was an outstanding game. We had 13 players in uniform and they all scored. Everyone was able to contribute tonight."

Five Lady Roadrunners scored in double figures, led by freshman guard/forward Zhanesha Dickerson with 16 points. She also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds to finish her double double. Sophomore guard Derriel Banyard contributed 15 points. Freshman guard Alize' Lofton added 13 points and tied for the team lead in assists with four. Freshman guard Sierra Clayborn pitched in with 12 points including eight of nine from the free-throw line. Freshman guard Maura Skidmore scored 10 points. Freshman guard Seara Clayborn, freshman guard Desirea Coleman and sophomore center Alecia Cooley each scored eight points. Cooley also dished out four assists to tie for the team lead. Sophomore guard Erin Boothe led the team in steals with four.

SFCC will travel to Mount Caramel, Illinois, for an early-season game against the 19th-ranked Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors at 5 p.m. Nov. 4.

"Wabash Valley is athletic," said Bucher. "We need to handle the ball, rebound and play strong defense."
