Lady Roadrunners softball splits four Region games

April 6 Three Rivers Community College at Poplar Bluff

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners softball team lost, 7-4 and 6-3 to Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff on Saturday, April 6. The doubleheader was part of the Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference schedule for both teams.

In game one, infielder Danika Sickle blasted a pair of home runs and drove in three to lead the SFCC offense. Middle infielder/outfielder Jordan Crooks doubled and scored a run. Pitcher Charlee Reese and infielder Sami Picha each had a hit. Outfielder Becca Hall and third baseman Myla Inman each scored a run.

Pitcher/utility player Aireanna Hoeppner got the start for SFCC and gave up seven runs (four earned runs) on nine hits, walked one and struck out one in 4 1/3 inningsn to earn the loss. Grace VanDenburgh came out of the bullpen to pitch the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up one hit.

In game two, utility player Bailey Haselhorst had a hit, a run scored, and an RBI. Outfielder Jaelyn Winfrey, Crooks and Hall had a hit each. Picha had a hit and a run scored. Third baseman Lia Hill contributed a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

Reese got the start SFCC and gave up six runs (two earned runs) on eight hits, struck out six and walked one in six innings.

April 7 Missouri State University-West Plains at Sedalia

SFCC (17-19, 11-7 swept a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference doubleheader with Missouri State University – West Plains. SFCC won the first game 5-4, in eight innings after scoring three runs in the bottom the seventh inning to tie the game at four. SFCC won game two, 8-0 in five innings to complete sweep at Mandy Thomas Field in Sedalia on Sunday, April 7.

In game one, Sickle had a pair of doubles and RBI. Shortstop Maliah Kenney hit a home run. Winfrey had a hit, two RBIs, and a stolen a base. Hall had a double a stolen a base. Hall also scored two runs. Haselhorst and outfielder Bella Ochoa each scored a run in the game.

VanDenburgh went the distance for SFCC and gave up four runs (three earned runs) on 10 hits, struck out two and walked one to earn the victory.

In game two, Sickle had three hits to lead SFCC, scored two runs and drove in one. Winfrey had two hits, including a double, scored two runs and stole a base. Catcher Paige Klinge had two hits, including a double and an RBI. Middle infielder/outfielder Emily Burke had two hits, including a double. Crooks contributed a double and an RBI. Third baseman Myla Inman hit a home run and drove in three runs. Picha had a hit, drove in a pair of runs and scored one.

Hoeppner pitched a complete game shutout for SFCC. Hoeppner gave up three hits and struck out seven.
