Lady Roadrunners pick up three victories

February 27 Central Methodist University Junior Varsity at Fayette, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners softball team swept the doubleheader from Central Methodist University Junior Varsity by scores of 14-0 and 14-2 on Tuesday, February 27 in Fayette.

In game one, the SFCC offense produced 15 hits. Middle infielder Sami Picha led the charge offensively with three hits, an RBI and two runs scored. Utility player Bailey Haselhorst had a pair of hits and two runs scored. Middle infielder/outfielder Emily Burke registered a pair of hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. Catcher Paige Klinge also registered a pair of hits, including a home run, three RBIs and a run scored. Outfielder Becca Hall hit a home run and drove in three runs. Outfielder Jaelyn Winfrey had a pair of hits, including a double, an RBI and a run scored. Third baseman Myla Inman also registered a double. Middle infielder/outfielder Jordan Crooks hit a home run, scored twice, and drove in a run. Burke and Winfrey each stole a base in the game.

Pitcher/utility player Aireanna Hoeppner tossed a complete game shutout for SFCC. Hoeppner pitched five innings, gave up three hits, struck out five and walked three.

In game two, first baseman/second baseman Danika Sickle had an outstanding game with four hits, including a double, a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. Pitcher Grace VanDenburgh recorded three hits, including two doubles and two RBIs. Haselhorst had a pair of hits, including a double, and two runs scored. Winfrey had a pair of hits, including a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. Crooks drove in a pair of runs. Haselhorst stole a pair of bases and Winfrey stole a base.

VanDenburgh got the start and gave up one unearned run on four hits and struck out two in three innings. Pitcher/first baseman Kiara Sodini pitched one inning and struck out one. Pitcher Charlee Reese pitched one inning, gave up one unearned run on one hit and struck out one to finish the game.

March 1 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College at Springfield, Missouri

SFCC fell 8-4 to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in their opening game in the Drury Junior College Classic in Springfield on Friday, March 1.

Haselhorst had two hits, a home run, an RBI, and a run scored. Crooks hit a home run, to go along with three RBIs and a run scored. Picha also registered a pair of hits, including a double. Klinge recorded a double and a run scored. As a team, the SFCC offense put together seven hits in the contest.

Hoeppner got the start and gave up five runs on eight hits, struck out four and walked four in 4 1/3 innings. Sodini came out of the bullpen to pitch the final 2 2/3 innings, gave up three runs on five hits and walked one.

March 1 Eastern Oklahoma State College at Springfield, Missouri

The Lady Roadrunners lost 13-8 to Eastern Oklahoma State College in their second game at the Drury Junior College Classic in Springfield on Friday, March 1.

Haselhorst registered three hits, including a double and a home run, scored three runs and drove in two. Winfrey recorded a pair of doubles and a triple, and two runs scored. Crooks added a pair of hits, including a double and a run scored. Burke had a pair of RBIs in the game. Picha, Inman and Sickle drove in a run each in the game.

VanDenburgh got the start for SFCC and allowed seven runs on 10 hits, walked two and struck out one in 3 2/3 innings. Reese pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief, allowed six runs, three earned runs on five hits, struck out one and walked one.

March 2 Coffeyville Community College at Springfield, Missouri

SFCC defeated Coffeyville Community College 13-0 in five innings in their third game at the Drury Junior College Classic on Saturday, March 2 in Springfield.

The SFCC offense exploded for 13 runs on nine hits. Haselhorst had two hits and two runs scored. Klinge had two hits, including a home run, three RBIs, three runs scored and one stolen base. Winfrey had a pair of hits, two runs scored, two RBIs and one stolen base. Hall hit a double, drove in a run, and scored three times. Picha drove in three runs and scored twice.

Reese tossed a complete game shutout and allowed three hits, struck out four and walked one.

March 2 Johnson County Community College at Springfield, Missouri

SFCC (4-10) fell in their final game of the Drury Junior College Classic 20-4 in five innings to Johnson County Community College on Saturday, March 2 in Springfield.

Picha led the SFCC offense with a double and four RBIs. Haselhorst recorded a double, a run scored and a stolen base. Winfrey had a double in the game. Hall, Sickle, and Inman scored a run each in the game.

VanDenburgh got the start for SFCC and gave up six runs on six hits and struck out one in 1 1/3 innings.
