Lady Roadrunners Softball Recaps March 11

March 11 North Central Missouri College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners finally got to open the home portion of their 2020 schedule splitting a Region 16 doubleheader against the North Central Missouri College Pirates from Trenton on Wednesday, March 11 at Mandy Thomas Field inside Centennial Park.

SFCC (5-9, 1-1 in Region 16) won the opening game 8-7 on a walk off sacrifice fly from freshman second baseman Taylor Williams of Rogersville in come-from-behind fashion in nine innings.

"We finally adjusted our at-bats," said Lady Roadrunners Softball Head Coach Lyndsey Talbot. "The girls are surprised by an outside strike call, but then they don't do anything to adjust to it throughout the game. We had some pretty good contact the entire game. The timely hitting finally came together."

In game one, Williams led the SFCC offense with three hits. She drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Sophomore catcher Jordan Fischer of New Florence had a pair of hits, including a home run, drove in two runs and scored once. Freshman middle infielder Summer Collier of Oak Grove also recorded two hits. Freshman catcher infielder/outfielder Brooke Conner of Sweet Springs hit a home run.

Freshman pitcher/first baseman Aleah Paxton of Lincoln went the distance in the circle for SFCC to pick up the victory. She gave up seven runs, six of which were earned on 15 hits and struck out two.

The Pirates won game two 11-9.

In game two, Collier had three hits, one run and one RBI. Freshman pitcher/outfielder Josie Day of Holden had two hits, one run and one RBI. Sophomore outfielder/second baseman Reagan Hockett of Sedalia also had a pair of hits, one RBI and scored a run. Freshman outfielder Haley Berhorst of Holts Summit and sophomore pitcher/first baseman Alissa Collette of Springfield drove in two runs each.

Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Abigail Rapp of King City got the start in the circle for SFCC. She pitched five innings. She gave up 11 runs, eight of which were earned on 11 hits and was given the pitching loss.

"We had some good at-bats, but then we had a lull in the middle of the game where we just kind of swing to swing," said Talbot. "Whenever we feel like the game is on the line, we come alive again."
