Roadrunners battle hard lose to Jefferson

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners lost 3-2 to the Jefferson College Vikings at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex in Sedalia on Wednesday, Sept. 20. The match was part of the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference schedule for both teams.

SFCC (1-5-1) got off to a quick start with a goal from a free kick by Oscar Garcia with less than 43 minutes to go in the opening half. SFCC controlled most of the first half, until Jefferson tied the score with a penalty kick with eight minutes remaining. Jefferson found the back of the net again with seven minutes and 42 seconds to go in the half to take a 2-1 lead.

SFCC tied the match with another goal from Garcia off a pass from Rodrigo Prieto with less than six minutes remaining until halftime. Jefferson scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal with less than five minutes remaining until halftime.

The Vikings took a 3-2 lead into halftime. SFCC battled the entire second half but was unable to find equalizer.

Garcia and Dario Catalan tied for the team lead in shots with two.
