Roadrunners fall to nationally ranked St. Charles

The State Fair Community College Roadrunners lost 3-1 to 11th ranked St. Charles Community College on Sept. 9 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex. The match was part of the Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference schedule.

St. Charles got on the scoreboard first with a goal with less than 32 minutes remaining in the opening half. The Cougars tacked on another goal with 15 minutes and 35 seconds remaining in the half. The Cougars added their final goal of the contest with less than 13 minutes remaining.

SFCC (0-3-1) found the back of the net late in the opening half with a goal from Jervan Matthew with an assist from Dario Catalan. The Roadrunners continued to battle in the second half but would get no closer.

Bruno Bas Berdiel led SFCC in shots with three. Adrian Fernandez got the start in goal for SFCC and played the first half. Kamryn Bridges played the second half for SFCC in goal.

"St. Charles is a good team," said head coach Michael Poropat. "They didn't need any help from us. Unfortunately, today we helped them. Some of the damage was self-inflicted. In the second half, we did a better job of executing the game plan defensively. We look forward to the match on Tuesday against John Wood."
