Roadrunners lose in final minutes

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners (7-6-1) soccer team saw their season come to an end in heartbreaking fashion with a 1-0 loss to 14th-ranked St. Charles Community College in a Region 16 quarterfinal round match in St. Charles on Saturday, Oct. 23.

"We had about 70 or 75% of the possession after the first five minutes of the game," said Roadrunners Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "This was a game that was played between the 18-yard boxes. We were able to control the ball."

St. Charles scored the only goal of the match off a corner kick that just barely trickled into the back of the net, with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.

"We were able to accomplish some positive things this season," said Beltran. "This is the second consecutive winning season since the program has come back. "We made some progress. We need to find a way to translate that into more consistency and getting that postseason victory. We will go back to work and try to outwork everyone else."
