Roadrunners defeat Missouri Valley

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners (6-5-1) picked up a 2-1 victory over Missouri Valley College at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

The Roadrunners opened the scoring with about 37 minutes remaining in the opening half with a goal from forward Roberto Jauregui in his first start, with an assist from freshman midfielder Zakariya Abdi. Jauregui scored again off a breakaway with less than 21 minutes to go in the opening half with an assist from freshman defender Juan Fernandez. SFCC took that advantage into halftime.

"Roberto really stepped up for us when he was needed today," said Roadrunners Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "As a team, we still need to learn to put 90 minutes together. I feel like today we played 70 or 75 minutes of really good soccer and 15 to 20 minutes of survival soccer. I thought the guys really battled today."

Missouri Valley scored off a corner kick with less than 44 minutes to go in the match. SFCC made the plays necessary to secure the victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Wesley Morrison got the start in goal for SFCC and made two saves.
