Roadrunners drop a pair of close matches

Sept. 29 Mineral Area College at Farmington, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners lost 3-1 to 13th ranked Mineral Area College on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Engler Park in Farmington, Missouri.

SFCC scored first with a goal from freshman midfielder Zakariya Abdi in the 19th minute, with an assist from sophomore midfielder Tebello Ntene. Mineral Area tied the match with a goal in the 44th minute. The score was tied at halftime. The Cardinals scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 54th minute. Mineral Area added the final goal in the 67th minute.

"We got off to a good start," said Roadrunners Assistant Coach Roberto Tucker. "Mineral Area likes to play a lot of long balls and be very direct. We were able to contain them. Unfortunately, we lost our focus defending some set pieces. We will continue to work hard to peak for the playoffs."

Freshman goalkeeper Wesley Morrison got the start for SFCC and made three saves

"We dominated the first half," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "Mineral got the tie on a goal off a set piece that we defended poorly with about a minute left in the half. In the second half, they scored two goals and we did not answer."

Ntene registered a team-high five shots, three of which were on goal. Freshman forward Francisco Zubia took four shots, three of which were on target.

Oct. 2 East Central College at Union, Missouri

SFCC (5-5-1) lost a 2-1 match to East Central College on Saturday, Oct. 2 in Union, Missouri.

The match was tied at halftime and East Central got on the scoreboard in the 56th minute. The Roadrunners responded with an unassisted goal in the 62nd minute from freshman defender Alejandro Paredes.

East Central scored the match winning goal in the 85th minute.

"We're dealing with some injury issues," said Beltran. "We did not play particularly well in the second half."

Sophomore midfielder Antoine Kamengele registered two shots, both of which were on goal for SFCC.

Morrison got the start in goal for SFCC and made four saves.
