Roadrunners split a pair of matches

Sept. 18 St. Louis Community College at St. Louis, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners dropped a 2-1 match to St. Louis Community College on Saturday, Sept. 18 in St. Louis, Missouri.

St. Louis opened the scoring in the 35th minute and SFCC countered one minute later with a goal off a penalty kick from sophomore midfielder Tebello Ntene to tie the match. St. Louis scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 42nd minute heading into halftime.

Ntene and freshman midfielder Zakariya Abdi each registered two shots in the match.

Freshman goalkeeper Wesley Morrison got the start in goal for SFCC and registered three saves.

"It was a really physical game," said Roadrunners Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "A physical game can disrupt our style a lot."

Sept. 21 Metropolitan Community College at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex

SFCC (5-3-1) picked up a 3-0 victory over Metropolitan Community College (MCC) at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard with a penalty kick from freshman Francisco Zubia with under 31 minutes remaining the opening half. SFCC scored again with 22 minutes remaining with a goal off a counterattack from Abdi with an assist from Zubia to notch a 2-0 lead at halftime. SFCC put the icing on the cake with about nine minutes remaining in the game with a goal from sophomore midfielder Wagner Nascimento, courtesy of an assist from freshman defender Alejandro Paredes.

Morrison recorded the shutout in goal for SFCC.

"Our team did what they needed to finish the game," said Beltran. "We want to win every half from here on out. We were consistent and we were able to move the ball and use our midfield."
