Men’s Soccer Recap April 26-May 1

April 26 East Central College at Union, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners lost 3-2 to East Central College on Monday, April 26 in Union.

SFCC trailed 3-0 in the second half. The Roadrunners fought back with a pair of goals to get within one, but could not put together another goal to tie the game.

Midfielder Zakariya Abdi of Houston, Texas got SFCC on the scoreboard in the 62nd minute off a pass from defender Marcos Adame of El Paso, Texas. The Roadrunners scored again in the 74th minute with a goal from defender Matheus de Navasquez of Brazil, with an assist from defender Leo Marinho of Brazil. Abdi led the team in shots with three, two of which were on goal.

"I wish we could get off to a better start in games," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "When we had a sense of urgency, we played well but, it was too little too late."

Goalkeeper Breno Prado of Brazil got the start in net for SFCC and made three saves.

 

May 1 Metropolitan Community College at Kansas City, Missouri

SFCC (3-3-3) defeated Metropolitan Community College 2-1 in overtime on Saturday, May 1 in Kansas City.

Abdi scored off a missed penalty kick to put SFCC on the scoreboard in the 17th minute. SFCC led 1-0 at halftime. Metropolitan Community College scored in the 60th minute to tie the game at one. The game was tied at the end of regulation. Sophomore midfielder Francisco Rojas of Sedalia scored directly off a corner kick to give SFCC the victory.

"The goalkeeper from Metropolitan Community College had an outstanding game," said Beltran. "He saved two penalty kicks and made two or three other outstanding saves. The corner kick went in on the opposite side of the goal into the upper 90. It was nice for both our men and women's teams to win on the same day."

Abdi took a team-high three shots in the game, all of which were on target. As a team, the Roadrunners took 14 shots, seven of which were on target.

Prado got the start in the net for SFCC and made three saves.
