Roadrunners Soccer Recap April 19-24

April 19 Mineral Area College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners tied Mineral Area College 1-1 on Monday, April 19 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex in Sedalia. SFCC is receiving votes in the NJCAA DII Men's Soccer Poll this week.

Both teams battled to a scoreless tie at halftime. Mineral Area got on the scoreboard with about 20 minutes remaining in the second half. SFCC responded with a goal from forward Francisco Zubia of El Paso, Texas to tie the game at one with an assist from defender Malachi Cotter of England. The game remained tied for the remainder of regulation. SFCC had chances to win the game in overtime but could not convert.

"It was one of those days when things just didn't go our way," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran.

Midfielder Tebello Ntene of Lesotho led the team in shots with seven, four of which were on target.

Jose Olmos of El Paso, Texas got the start in goal for the Roadrunners and made four saves

April 21 St. Louis Community College at St. Louis

SFCC lost 4-1 to 17th ranked St. Louis Community College on Wednesday, April 21 in St. Louis. Zubia opened the scoring with a goal in the 25th minute with an assist from midfielder Zakariya Abdi of Houston, Texas. St. Louis scored the next four goals to take control of the contest.

"We had some injuries in this game," said Beltran. "We started the game well but, within a 10-minute period we lost three starters who were unable to come back into the game. It was tough to overcome, and we didn't play well after that."

The Roadrunners added six shots, three of which were on target as a team. Ntene led the team with two shots.

Goalkeeper Breno Prado of Brazil got the start in net for SFCC and made three saves in the game.

April 24 Mineral Area College at Bonne Terre, Missouri

SFCC (2-2-3) played to a 1-1 tie on Saturday, April 24 at Mineral Area College in Bonne Terre.  Mineral Area got on the scoreboard first with a goal in the eighth minute.

SFCC answered in the 33rd minute with a goal from midfielder Eduardo Antunes of Brazil, off a pass from Zubia. SFCC battled through the remainder of regulation and two overtimes, but could not find another goal. Zubia had four shots, three of which were on target to lead the team.

Prado got the start in the net for the Roadrunners and recorded three saves.

"It was a hard-fought game," said Beltran. "It was fairly physical. They had a few opportunities and they capitalized on one. We had several opportunities and didn't do a great job of capitalizing, and the game finished 1-1."
