April 3 St. Charles Community College at Cottleville, Missouri
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners opened their season with a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference victory, with a score of 1-0 over the 14th-ranked St. Charles Community College Cougars on Saturday, April 3 in Cottleville, Missouri.
SFCC got on the scoreboard in the second half with a goal from Tebello Ntene of Lesotho, with an assist from Leo Marinho of Brazil. The one goal advantage was all the SFCC defense needed for the remainder of the match.
"Our team started the match kind of slow and then they picked up the pace," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We needed to shake off the cobwebs from not being able to be outside very much. Once they started playing their game, we had some really good combination play in the midfield that definitely helped put us over the top. St. Charles really pushed hard to make a comeback, but our guys were able to hold steady. I thought all of our guys did a good job."
Breno Prado of Brazil got the start in net for SFCC and made two saves. Jose Olmos of El Paso, Texas finished the game in net for SFCC.
