Men's soccer game recaps, Sept. 27, 28 and 30

Sept. 27, Indian Hills Community College at Ottumwa, Iowa

State Fair Community College took on the sixth-ranked Indian Hills Community College Warriors. Indian Hills emerged with a 2-0 victory.

The Warriors scored in the 42nd minute of the first half and added a goal in the second half for the win.

"We didn't play badly," said Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "Indian Hills made the most of their opportunities. We had a couple of chances to score that missed by inches. That was the difference in the game."

SFCC had three shots in the match. Freshman goalkeeper Landon Dove registered eight saves.

Sept. 28, Central Methodist University at Sedalia

SFCC bounced back from a loss to Indian Hills to defeat Central Methodist University 3-2.

SFCC scored first with a goal from sophomore forward Mako Makoanyane off a rebound. Freshman defender Hunter Crowden was credited with an assist with 13 minutes and 34 seconds remaining in the opening half. The score was 1-0 at halftime.

Freshman midfielder Vasbert Ledger scored from close range off freshman forward Lesia Thetsane's pass with 27 minutes left in the second half. Thetsane found the back of the net off a pass from fellow freshman forward Buhirwa Issa about three minutes later to put SFCC up 3-0.

The Roadrunners withstood a late charge from CMU when the Eagles scored two goals in the final seven minutes. Freshman goalkeeper Landon Dove made seven saves.

"We didn't finish the game like we needed to," said Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "However, we got a win, and that was the most important part."

Sept. 30, Southwestern Illinois College at Belleville, Illinois

The Roadrunners lost this game to the SIC Blue Storm 3-2.

Freshman defender Niko Burns got SFCC on the scoreboard in the 32nd minute off a pass from sophomore forward Aaron La Paz. Burns scored again off a penalty kick in the 51st minute to draw SFCC within one goal. However, that was as close as they would get.

"We were attacking most of the game," said Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We just have to put away our opportunities."

SFCC registered 21 shots in the match with 12 on goal. Freshman forward Lesia Thetsane led with six shots. Sophomore forward Aaron La Paz had four and freshman midfielder Vasbert Ledger and Burns registered three each. Freshman goalkeeper Landon Dove made 10 saves.
