Vikings defeat Roadrunners

The Roadrunners hosted the Missouri Valley College Vikings JV in their final regular season home match on Sunday afternoon, October 16. SFCC (3-11-1) fell by a score of 2-1.

The match was scoreless until the 22-minute and 43-second mark of the second half when Missouri Valley found the back of the net.

SFCC freshman midfielder Jesus Carlos found a loose ball in front of the Vikings' goal and put it past the goalkeeper, tying the score with about 18 minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the match. The Vikings scored the game-winning goal just over a minute later and used their defense to win the match.

"We had moments where we were able to string some passes together," said Roadrunners Head Soccer Coach Eddie Horn. "I was glad we were able to have the answer after Missouri Valley scored their first goal, but we gave it right back to them."

SFCC will play St. Louis Community College in St. Louis in the opening round of the Region 16 men's soccer tournament at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

"We just have to come out with the right mindset," said Horn. "We have to defend and be ready to play on the break offensively."
