Roadrunners defeat Red Dragons

The SFCC Roadrunners traveled to Lexington to take on the Wentworth Military Academy and College Red Dragons in a Region 16 men's soccer match on Sept. 28. SFCC (3-6-1, 2-5 in Region 16) won the match 2-1.

Freshman midfielder Gire Ngezahayo scored off a cross from freshman midfielder Vlad Warsawski to put the Roadrunners up 1-0 at the three-minute mark of the opening half.

The Red Dragons tied the game in the 70th minute. Ngezahayo found the back of the net a second time in the 81st minute to provide the winning margin, courtesy of an assist from freshman midfielder Jesus Carlos

Freshman goalkeeper Reece Gabbert recorded the victory in goal for SFCC. He made two saves for the Roadrunners.

"We needed something positive to happen for us," said Roadrunners Head Soccer Coach Eddie Horn. "The players are working hard, and it was nice to see them get a road win."

SFCC will be back in action when they travel to Lewis and Clark Community College on Sunday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
