Roadrunners fall to Vikings in double overtime

The State Fair Community College Roadrunners traveled to Hillsboro to take on the Jefferson College Vikings in a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference match. SFCC (1-3-1, 1-3 in Region 16, 1-2 in the MCCAC) dropped a hard-fought match 2-1.

Jefferson got on the scoreboard first with a goal at the 14-minute, seven-second mark of the first half. SFCC responded with a goal from freshman defender Yusef Shone off a pass from freshman midfielder Logan Horn at the 16-minute, 29-second mark of the second half.

"Yusef took the ball in and was able to get behind the Jefferson defense and float a shot over their goalkeeper's head," said Roadrunners Soccer Head Coach Eddie Horn. "That was a big way to answer Jefferson's early goal, especially on the road. We haven't had great success up to this point in the win-loss column. I was glad to see that we had a little fight in us."

The game remained tied until the second overtime when Jefferson scored an unassisted goal on a shot from about 30 yards. Roadrunners freshman goalkeeper Remington Hayes recorded eight saves in the match.

"It was a great shot," said Horn. "In the big picture, I was glad we didn't get scored on because of a mental mistake or a bad play."

The Roadrunners will be back in action at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, when they take on the Missouri Valley College JV at the Sports Complex west of the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
