Roadrunners fall in preseason scrimmage

The State Fair Community College Roadrunners scrimmaged against William Woods University, Fulton, on Tuesday, Aug. 16, in Sedalia.

William Woods opened the scoring in the first half, but the Roadrunners answered courtesy of a penalty kick from freshman midfielder Lesia Thetsan to tie the game at one. William Woods scored a pair of second half goals to secure the 3-1 victory.

"Overall, there were some positive things that came out of today's scrimmage," said Roadrunners Head Soccer Coach Eddie Horn. "I thought it was very beneficial to just get out and play at the collegiate level. We were able to find out what it is going to take to win at this level, how hard we have to train and play. We saw things we definitely need to work on. We can only get better from here."

The Roadrunners will have another scrimmage at 7 p .m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, when they travel to Columbia College. Coach Horn sees several things the team must work on in practice to prepare for the final scrimmage of the preseason.

"We need to continue to work on passing the ball," said Horn. "We did not move the ball fast enough. We also need to work on our movement off of the ball. We knew that it would be a slow building process coming into the season. Our main focus from here is to get better."
