Elston selected for NJCAA all-star event

Jazzmyn Elston

Lady Roadrunners basketball rising sophomore Jazzmyn Elston has been selected to play with and against the top 40 NJCAA women's basketball players in the country at the 10th annual NJCAA Women's Basketball Coaches Association all-star weekend July 26-29 in Atlanta, Georgia.

"Coaches nominate their players they feel are worthy of participating in the event," said Head Basketball Coach Kevin Bucher. "A committee looks at the stats and other information submitted for the nominees and then makes the final selections."

Elston arrives on Thursday, July 26, and is then assigned to a team. On Friday, the team practices and plays a game on Saturday and Sunday.

Bucher feels the all-star weekend will be very important for Elston.

"It is a great opportunity for Jazzmyn," said Bucher. "She wants to be able to play at the highest level she can. At the all-star weekend, she will have opportunities to play against some great competition loaded with good guards. If she plays well, she will have the chance to catch the eyes of coaches from four-year colleges and universities. I'm looking forward to going and watching Jazzmyn play."

As a freshman, Elston was named to the NJCAA All-Region 16 second team and the MCCAC all-conference second team. Elston played in 29 games and started in 15. She averaged 12.6 points per game, which placed her third on the team. She shot 45.8 percent from the field and 37.1 from the three-point line.
