Women's soccer recaps Oct. 10 and 13

Oct. 10, Metropolitan Community College-Blue River at Sedalia

The Lady Roadrunners played for the first time in 10 days against the Metropolitan Community College-Blue River Trail Blazers. The weather was rainy and cold. SFCC fell 4-1 in the non-region contest.

Blue River opened the scoring with about 27 minutes, 33 seconds remaining in the opening half off a nice cross. The ball was headed into the net for a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Roadrunners responded with a goal from sophomore forward Tiffany Wehmeyer who was able to beat the goalkeeper one-on-one with about 17 minutes remaining. Freshman midfielder Raleigh Johns assisted her.

With four minutes, 30 seconds left in the half, Blue River scored and added another with just less than three minutes left to lead 3-1 at halftime. The Trail Blazers scored the final goal in the second half.

"We were missing some key players on defense," said Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "Even though we were able to go forward okay, we struggled on defense. We got it sorted out in the second half, but couldn't finish our offensive opportunities."

Wehmeyer recorded three shots in the match, two of which were on target. Freshman goalkeeperTrinity Sigler recorded 11 saves.

 

Oct. 13, Central Methodist University at Fayette

The Lady Roadrunners defeated Central Methodist University 3-1 and broke the program's record for victories in a season.

With a pass from sophomore forward Tiffany Wehmeyer, freshman midfielder Karina Esquivelscored her second goal of the season in the 12th minute. Sophomore forward Kristen Farrellextended the advantage 2-0 with a goal in the 63rd minute, courtesy of a pass from Wehmeyer. It was Farrell's third goal in the season.

Central Methodist scored in the 77th minute to make the score 2-1. Wehmeyer found the back of the net in the 80th minute off a pass from freshman forward Jessica Coble to finish the scoring. The goal was Wehmeyer's eighth in the season. Freshman goalkeeper Trinity Sigler recorded one save.

"This was one of the better games we played this season," said Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "It took a couple of minutes for us to get settled in the game, but we are hitting on all cylinders toward the end of the season. Hopefully, it will carry on into the playoffs."

The Lady Roadrunners record currently stands at 4-10-1 on the year.
