Women's soccer game recaps, Sept, 27 and 28

Sept. 27, Indian Hills Community College at Ottumwa, Iowa

The Lady Roadrunners dropped a hard-fought 2-1 game in overtime to the 20th ranked IHCC Warrriors.

"Our team played well," said Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We stuck to our defensive responsibilities very well and then countered from there. We had a couple of opportunities."

Indian Hills struck first with a goal in the opening half. SFCC sophomore forward Tiffany Wehmeyertied the game with about 25 minutes remaining in regulation.

"We had an opening off one of our counterattacks," said Beltran. "Tiffany found the goalkeeper off her line and took a good early shot, but Indian Hills got a goal in overtime. It wasn't a bad performance even though the result didn't go our way."

SFCC registered eight shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Trinity Sigler recorded 15 saves.

 

Sept. 28, Missouri Valley College at Sedalia

The Lady Roadrunners lost 4-2 to the MVC Lady Vikings. Missouri Valley scored with less than 35 minutes remaining in the opening half. SFCC tied the game with less than 23 minutes left when sophomore forward Kristen Farrell scored off a rebound. The score was tied at the half.

MVC opened the second half of the match with a goal at the 41-minute mark. Sophomore forwardTiffany Wehmeyer tied the game when she converted on a one-on-one breakaway opportunity with less than 40 minutes left in the game. Freshman forward Bianca Meza provided the assist. MVC scored twice late in the match for the win.

"We just did not play well," said Head Coach Jaime Beltran.

Wehmeyer led with four shots and one shot on goal. Farrell registered a shot on goal along with sophomore defender Sarah Garcia. Freshman goalkeeper Trinity Sigler made six saves.

The Lady Roadrunners record currently stands at 3-9-1.
