Women's soccer game recaps Sept. 13 and 16

September 13, Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods at Kansas City

The Lady Roadrunners picked up a much-needed 2-1 victory over the Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods Monarchs. It was the first Region 16 win for the Lady Roadrunners this season.

Sophomore forward Tiffany Wehmeyer scored first off a pass from freshman midfielder Raleigh Johns at the six-minute mark of the opening half. Sophomore midfielder Grace Franke found the back of the net, courtesy of a pass from Wehmeyer at the 26-minute mark. The goal was the first of the year for Franke.

"We switched a couple of things in our system to better fit the personnel that we have now," said Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We were able to play our best game of the season so far."

Wehmeyer led in shots with three; Johns registered two. Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Coble got the start in the net.

September 16 Lewis and Clark Community College at Sedalia

The Lady Roadrunners hosted the eighth-ranked Lewis and Clark Community College Trailblazers from Godfrey, Illinois, and lost 1-0.

Lewis and Clark had an opportunity to score first with a penalty kick, but it went wide. Both teams played well defensively in the first half leading to a scoreless match at halftime.

Lewis and Clark scored the game-winning goal with less than 40 minutes in the second half with a shot off a cross.

"The girls played well," said Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "A ball got across the six yard box that probably shouldn't have. Lewis and Clark got a goal off of it. After that, our defense was solid. Jessica Coble made a couple of good saves. Their goalkeeper made a couple of good saves. I'm not pleased with the result, but I'm not upset with how they played."

Sophomore forward Tiffany Wehmeyer recorded a pair of shots. Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Coble got the start in the net and made six saves.

The Lady Roadrunners record currently stands at 2-6-1, 1-1 in Region 16.
