Lady Roadrunners defeat Crowder

The 21st ranked Lady Roadrunners won their fourth game in a row on Wednesday night, Jan. 20, 86-70 over the Crowder College Lady Roughriders from Neosho at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus. SFCC (17-3, 4-0 in Region 16) led 56-40, with less than five minutes remaining in the third quarter. It would be the largest lead for either team in the contest.

Crowder fought their way back into the game trimming the lead to 58-56 at the end of the third quarter, but SFCC outscored Crowder 28-14 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

"We went to a smaller lineup along with Kendra (Boone) late in the game," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "She was able to get some rebounds for us and set some screens. Crowder had to collapse on her, which opened up some three-point shots for our guards. Sierra (Clayborn) was 4 for 5 in three-point shots. Seara Clayborn made one of three from beyond the three-point arc. Sierra definitely helped us seal the game at the end."

Sierra Clayborn led the Lady Roadrunners in scoring with 22 points. She also dished out a team-high five assists in the game. Alexis Cowan contributed 16 points. She also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and registered a team-high two steals. Boone led the team in blocked shots with two. As a team, the Lady Roadrunners made 12 out of 20 three-point shot attempts and 16 out of 17 free throw attempts.

Coach Bucher sees some key areas that his team needs to improve on before they hit the road for the first time in Region 16 play.

"We have to rebound the ball better," said Bucher. "We need to do a better job of limiting our opponent's shots, and we have to keep from sending them to the free-throw line." SFCC will travel to Park Hills on Saturday, Jan. 23, for a big Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game against the Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
