SFCC splits on sophomore day

April 5 Metropolitan Community College at Kansas City

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) softball team split a Region 16 doubleheader with Metropolitan Community College, dropping the first game 11-9 before bouncing back to win game two 14-6 in Kansas City April 5.

In game one, Sophomore first baseman Alexis Gilliland led SFCC with four hits, including a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored. Sophomore catcher/second baseman Haley Mackey had two hits, including one home run, two RBI, and a team-high three runs. Freshman Makinzi Harris hit a home run, a double, and had a team-high four RBI. Freshman Rylee Hagens added two hits, including a double.

Freshman Kennidi Harris pitched the complete game and gave up 11 runs on 12 hits and struck out three.

In game two, Mackey recorded a home run, a double and five RBI. Sophomore second baseman/third baseman Kelsey Webb also hit a double, a home run, scored a run, and added two RBI. Sophomore utility player Olivia Butler hit a home run, scored three runs, and two RBI. Freshman Hallie Russell had two hits, including a home run, three runs scored, and two RBI. Sophomore utility player Kailee Liles had two hits, including one home run, and two RBI. Hagens scored twice. Freshman Jacqueline Klein also scored two runs. Freshman Kailei Allen had a double.

Sophomore pitcher Sadie Kumm got the start in the circle for SFCC. Kumm pitched five innings, allowed five runs (four earned) and struck out three. Sophomore pitcher Tabitha Imhoff came out of the bullpen to pick up the victory. Imhoff pitched two innings and gave up one run on three hits.

April 7 St. Louis Community College at St. Louis

SFCC dropped a pair of Missouri Community College Athletic Conference games 13-5 (in five innings) and 7-2 to St. Louis Community College April 7 in St. Louis.

In game one, Gilliland hit a home run and had three RBI. Hagens hit a home run, batted in two, and scored twice. Mackey had a pair of hits, including a double.

Sophomore pitcher Tabitha Imhoff got the start and pitched 2 2/3 innings, gave up eight runs (four earned) and struck out one.

In game two, Mackey had a pair of hits and one scored. Makinzi Harris also registered a pair of hits and an RBI. Freshman Cadyn Paxton had an RBI.

Freshman pitcher Kennidi Harris went the distance and allowed four runs (three earned) and struck out five.

April 9 Crowder College at Sedalia

SFCC dropped a pair of Region 16 games to 16th-ranked Crowder College 11-0 (in five innings) and 2-0 (in 10 innings) at home April 9.

In game one, SFCC struggled to get their offense on track with only three hits. Hagens, Gilliland, and freshman Alexis Hughes each had one hit.

Kumm pitched the complete game and allowed 11 runs (five earned) on 10 hits.

In game two, the score was tied at zero at the end of seven innings. SFCC had opportunities to win the game in the end of the eighth and ninth innings but, was unable to get the key hit. Crowder scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning.

Mackey had two hits. Hagens had one hit along with Webb. Gilliland registered a double.

Freshman Kennidi Harris pitched a complete game and surrendered five hits, gave up two runs (one earned) and struck out eight. SFCC was also solid defensively and held Crowder scoreless through nine innings.

April 10 Central Methodist University at Sedalia

SFCC (7-23) split a doubleheader against Central Methodist University, dropping game one 16-15 before bouncing back to win game two in five innings 10-2 on sophomore day at home April 10.

In game one, the SFCC offense had 13 hits as a team. Webb had three hits, scored twice, and one RBI. Freshman Lauren Strange also had three hits, four RBI (a team-high), and scored twice. Liles scored three runs (a team-high) in the game and had a triple. Allen hit a double in the game

Imhoff got the start and pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed 12 runs (eight earned) on seven hits. Kennidi Harris came out of the bullpen and gave up one hit and two runs (none earned) and struck out four in three innings. Hughes pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on three hits and walked four.

SFCC honored its sophomore class between games of the doubleheader.

In game two, the SFCC offense had nine hits, including a pair of home runs. Webb had three hits, including a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored. Hagens had the other home run for SFCC. Freshman Paige Clines recorded two RBI.

Freshman pitcher Kennidi Harris got the start and pitched one inning, gave up one hit, two runs (one earned) struck out two and walked two. Kumm pitched the final four innings, surrendered two hits, struck out five, and walked one in the victory.
