Lady Roadrunners Softball Recap May 1-2

April 1 North Central Missouri College at Trenton, Missouri

The sixth-seeded State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners split the first two games of their Sub Regional Playoff dropping game one 6-0 before bouncing back to win game two 6-4 against third-seeded North Central Missouri College on Saturday, May 1 in Trenton, Missouri. The teams played a winner-take-all game three on Sunday.

In game one, the SFCC offense was held to just one hit, a single from freshman catcher/second baseman Haley Mackey of Lincoln. Mackey and sophomore middle infielder Summer Collier of Oak Grove drew one walk each in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Aleah Paxton of Lincoln got the start for SFCC. Paxton pitched 4 1/3 innings, gave up four runs, (three of which were earned), on seven hits. Paxton struck out four, walked one, and was charged to earn the loss.

In game two, SFCC got their offense going early and often scoring two runs in the first, third, and fourth innings to take a 6-0 lead. North Central trimmed the advantage to 6-4 in the fifth inning, when SFCC sophomore pitcher/outfielder Josie Day of Holden came out of the bullpen for SFCC to record a big out and pitch the remainder the game to pick up the save.

Sophomore catcher/third baseman Brooke Conner of Sweet Springs led the SFCC offense with a pair of hits, (including a double), five RBI, and a run scored. Freshman infielder Kelsey Webb had a pair of hits, (including a double), and a run scored. Freshman outfielder Ellie Eckert of Auxvasse had two hits and scored twice. Freshman third baseman Allie Ferrell of Columbia also had a pair of hits, (including a double), and two runs scored. Collier also drove in a run.

Freshman pitcher Sadie Kumm of Higginsville got the start for SFCC. Kumm pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up four runs, (three of which were earned), on eight hits and struck out two. Kumm picked up the victory in the circle for SFCC. Day pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed two hits, struck out three, and walked one.

May 2 North Central Missouri College at Trenton, Missouri

SFCC (17-28) saw their season come to an end on Sunday, May 2, by a score of 7-0 in the third and deciding game of their Sub Regional against North Central Missouri College in Trenton.

North Central scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to get on scoreboard. North Central added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning to provide the winning margin.

The SFCC offense was limited to a pair of hits, a triple from Mackey and a single from Day. Sophomore outfielder Haley Berhorst of Holts Summit drew a walk.

Paxton got the start in the circle for SFCC. Paxton pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed two runs on three hits, walked one, struck out one, and was given the pitching loss.
