Softball game recaps April 7-9

 April 7, Crowder College at Mandy Thomas Field, Centennial Park

 The softball team hosted the Crowder College Lady Riders from Neosho in another Region 16 doubleheader and lost 12-3 and 13-4. 

Crowder scored with a single run in the first inning and added three in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead.

Freshman catcher/infielder Emily Guyton got an infield hit. Freshman catcher/infielder Anna Mae Wilkerson hit a homerun to left-center field to cut the deficit to 4-2 in the second inning. 

Crowder added four runs in the third. SFCC sophomore catcher/infielder Sarah McAninch hit a solo homerun to center field in the fifth, but SFCC lost in five innings because of the run rule. 

Freshman pitcher/outfielder MacKenze Gudde pitched two innings, allowing four runs and took the loss.

Freshman utility player Mikayla Gustin had two doubles. Wilkerson had two hits, and Guyton contributed a run. 

In game two, Crowder scored two runs in the first inning and seven in the second. In the bottom of the second inning, Wilkerson doubled to right field with two outs and scored on an error by the shortstop. In the third inning, Wilkerson hit a three-run homerun to centerfield to cut Crowder's lead 9-4. Crowder added three runs in the fourth to take a 12-4 lead. SFCC lost 13-4. 

Freshman pitcher/outfielder Emily Ross took the loss for the Lady Roadrunners. She had two hits and scored a run. Wilkerson had two hits and three RBIs and scored twice. Guyton had a hit and an RBI. Freshman pitcher/first baseman Madison Harris and sophomore outfielder Kalee Shumaker registered one hit each. 

April 8, Jefferson College at Mandy Thomas Field, Centennial Park

The Lady Roadrunners hosted a Region 16 doubleheader against the Jefferson College Lady Vikings. Jefferson won both games 9-2 and 9-0. 

In game one, Jefferson scored two runs in the first inning and two in the third to lead 4-0. In the fourth inning, Jefferson added three runs. SFCC got a leadoff double from Gudde. Freshman infielder Sydnee Cotter hit into the gap in left-centerfield and Gudde scored. SFCC got another run to make the score 7-2 but did not score again. 

Gudde pitched 3 1/3 innings for the Lady Roadrunners and took the loss. Gustin led State Fair with two hits. Gudde, Cotter, McAninch, Wilkerson, and Ross contributed one hit each. Wilkerson and Cotter's hits scored Gudde and Cotter. 

In game two, Jefferson scored two runs in the second inning. The Lady Roadrunners had scoring opportunities but could not break through. 

Jefferson scored two runs in the fourth inning, one in the fifth and four runs in the sixth inning for a 9-0 lead. SFCC lost in six innings because of the run rule.  

Ross went the distance for SFCC and took the loss. Gudde, Gustin and Ross provided the only three hits for the Lady Roadrunners. 

April 9, St. Louis Community College in St. Louis

The Lady Roadrunners traveled to St. Louis to take on the St. Louis Community College Lady Archers in a doubleheader. SLCC won the first game 10-2. SFCC snapped a losing streak by winning the second game 9-0. Both games ended by the run rule. 

In the first game, St. Louis scored one run in the first inning. SFCC answered with a single run in the top of the second. The Lady Archers scored eight in the second inning to command the game. 

Ross hit a homerun for SFCC in the top of the second inning and drove in the second run with a fly out to right field that scored Gustin. Gudde pitched four innings and took the loss for the Lady Roadrunners. 

In game two, SFCC scored two runs in the second inning, one in the third and two in the fourth inning. SFCC finished with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth.  

Harris led the Lady Roadrunners with two hits and three RBIs. Gudde had two hits, scored two runs and an RBI. Freshman infielder Cotter had a hit and a run scored. Gustin contributed two hits and a run scored. Ross had two hits and two runs scored. McAninch had a hit and two runs scored. Freshman outfielder Shelby Sprinkle got a hit and an RBI. 

Ross pitched a shutout, striking out 10 batters and scattering four hits. 

The Lady Roadrunners record is 6-24, 0-16 in Region 16.

SFCC Athletics
