Softball recaps March 23-26

March 23, St. Charles Community College at Mandy Thomas Field, Centennial Park

The Lady Roadrunners took on the St. Charles Community College Cougars in another Region 16 doubleheader. St. Charles swept SFCC 4-1 and 4-3. 

In game one, St. Charles scored first with a run in the third inning. The Cougars tacked on three more in the top of the fifth.

SFCC scored one run in the seventh inning. Freshman infielder Sydnee Cotter got a base hit to right field with one out. Freshman utility player Mikayla Gustin scored Cotter with an RBI double. 

Freshman MacKenze Gudde pitched a complete game for the Lady Roadrunners. She gave up five hits, four runs and two earned runs while striking out five. 

Gudde, catcher/infielder sophomore Sarah McAninch, Cotter and Gustin each recorded a hit for SFCC. 

In game two, St. Charles scored first with a run in the top of the second inning and added two more runs in the third and one in the fourth. 

SFCC answered with a pair of runs in the fourth. McAninch started the rally with a walk, followed by a base hit from Gustin. The runners advanced on a wild pitch. Sophomore outfielder Kalee Shumaker drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Freshman catcher/infielder Anna Mae Wilkerson put the ball in play to the second baseman, who made an error that allowed one run to score. Guston scored on a wild pitch to add the second run of the frame. 

SFCC found themselves still trailing by two runs heading into the home half of the seventh inning. Freshman pitcher/first baseman Madison Harris got a base hit and advanced to third base on an error. St. Charles committed another error on a pop-up to put runners at first and third. SFCC scored a run to making the final score 4-3. 

Freshman pitcher Emily Ross took the loss. She went the distance allowing four earned runs on eight hits and struck out four. 

March 26 at Crowder College

The Lady Roadrunners traveled to Neosho for another Region 16 doubleheader. Crowder swept SFCC 11-2 and 9-1. 

In game one, Crowder scored two runs in the first inning and one more in the second. SFCC got on the scoreboard with a run in the third inning. The Lady Riders blew the game open with six runs in the bottom of the fourth. SFCC added one more run in the top of the fifth. 

Gudde led the Lady Roadrunners offensively with three hits and an RBI. McAninch and Ross provided the other two hits. Ross also scored a pair of runs for the Lady Roadrunners.

Gudde got the start in the circle for SFCC. She pitched four innings and struck out one. She was the losing pitcher in game one. Harris pitched the final inning and two thirds. 

In the second game, each team scored a run in the first inning. The Lady Riders took control the game, scoring two in the second and six in the third. 

Gudde led the Lady Roadrunners offensively with two hits and a run scored. McAninch recorded a hit and an RBI in game two. Gustin and Wilkerson also had hits for SFCC. 

Ross took the loss for SFCC. She pitched four innings and struck out two. The Lady Roadrunners record currently stands at 5-17, 0-10 in Region 16.
