Lady Roadrunners lose to Falcons March 18

The Lady Roadrunners took on the East Central College Falcons in a Region 16 doubleheader on March 18 at Mandy Thomas Field at Centennial Park. SFCC (5-13, 0-6 in Region 16) lost both games 4-3 and 11-1. 

In game one, East Central scored first with a run in the fourth inning. SFCC tied the game with a run in the fifth. SFCC scored two runs in the sixth inning, courtesy of a two-run home run from freshman pitcher MacKenze Gudde to give SFCC a 3-1 lead into the top of the seventh. 

East Central scored three runs in the seventh to take a 4-3 lead for the win.  

Gudde led SFCC with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Freshman infielder Sydnee Cotter contributed two hits and a run scored. Sophomore outfielder Kalee Shumaker added a hit. Freshman first baseman Makayla Sivils and freshman catcher/infielder Emily Guyton contributed one hit each. 

Gudde pitched seven innings, giving up four runs and three earned runs while striking out seven. She took the loss. 

In game two, East Central scored a run in the second inning and added three in the fifth. SFCC scored a single run in the bottom of the sixth, courtesy of a solo home run from Gudde, her second of the doubleheader. 

The Falcons blew the game open with seven runs in the top of the seventh. 

Gudde led the Lady Roadrunners' with three hits including a double and a homerun. She also had a run scored and an RBI. Cotter contributed a hit along with freshman utility player Mikayla Gustin and freshman pitcher/first baseman Madison Harris

Freshman pitcher Emily Ross pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up three runs and two earned runs. She struck out six and took the loss. Harris finished the game, allowing seven runs and two earned runs in 1 2/3 innings. 

"We continue to work on improving our execution and in-game adjustments at the plate," said Head Coach Lyndsey Talbot.
