SFCC softball game recaps March 7 and 9

March 7, North Central Missouri College at Mandy Thomas Field, Centennial Park

The Lady Roadrunners fell in its Region 16 opener 12-0 in game one of a doubleheader against the Lady Pirates of North Central Missouri College (NCMC). North Central scored a run in the first inning, two in the second, tacked on four runs in the fourth, and five in the fifth to win the game by the run rule. 

SFCC sophomore outfielder Kalee Shumaker and freshman pitcher/first baseman Madison Harris were the only two SFCC players to record hits in the game.

Freshman pitcher Emily Ross (0-2) tossed a complete game and took the loss for SFCC. 

In game two, NCMC scored two runs in first inning. SFCC responded with four in the bottom of the inning. Shumaker tripled to lead off and scored on a single to center field. Sophomore catcher/infielder Sarah McAninch scored freshman infielder Sydnee Cotter to tie the game. The offense added two more runs to take a 4-2 lead. 

The Lady Pirates added two runs in the third and fourth innings and three more in the fifth to take a 9-4 advantage. 

The Lady Roadrunners answered with a single run in the fifth inning and four more runs in the sixth inning when SFCC loaded the bases with one out. Harris unloaded the bases with a double over the head of the centerfielder to tie the game at nine. 

NCMC scored one run in seventh to take a 10-9 lead and won the second game. 

Cotter led the Lady Roadrunners with three hits and scored a pair of runs. Shumaker, McAninch and Harris had two hits each. McAninch and freshman catcher/infielder Emily Guyton knocked in two runs each. 

Freshman pitcher/outfielder MacKenze Gudde pitched the first five innings allowing nine runs, only four were earned. Harris pitched the final two innings and gave up one run while striking out three. Harris (2-4) was the losing pitcher.    

"We just need to continue to work on our execution," said Softball Head Coach Lyndsey Talbot. 

March 9 at Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods

The Lady Roadrunners took on the Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods Monarchs in a Region 16 doubleheader. Maple Woods swept SFCC 7-0 and 6-0. 

Maple Woods scored a run in the first and two in the third innings. They broke the game open with four runs in the fourth. Gudde, freshman catcher/infielder Anna Mae Wilkerson and Harris recorded hits for the Lady Roadrunners in game one. 

Ross (0-3) took the loss for SFCC. She pitched six innings allowing seven runs and five earned runs. She struck out one. 

In game two, Maple Woods scored single runs in the first, second and third innings. The Monarchs added two runs in the sixth. 

Wilkerson and Harris recorded the only two hits for SFCC in game two. Gudde (2-3) pitched six innings for SFCC. She allowed six runs and four earned runs while taking the loss. SFCC is now 5-11, 0-4 in Region 16 on the season.
