Roadrunners find success on track and field

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) track and field teams opened their inaugural indoor season at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic inside the Carl and Cheryl Hughes Fieldhouse on Saturday, Dec. 4 in Maryville.

The Roadrunners posted seven finishes in the top eight. The Lady Roadrunners posted one finish in the top eight.

On the track, the Roadrunners were led by freshman Jalen McGee with a third-place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.64 seconds. Freshman D'Marion Riley placed seventh in the 60m hurdles with a time of 14.84.

Freshman Brandon Allen placed seventh in the 300m with a time of 37.27 seconds. Freshman Ethan Sims placed eighth in the 300m with a time of 38.18 seconds.

In the field events, SFCC was led by a fourth-place finish from McGee with a long jump of 6.72 meters. Riley finished seventh with a jump of 6.56 meters. Freshman Wyatt Irwin finished eighth in the high jump with a jump of 1.84 meters.

The Lady Roadrunners were led by freshman Mariah Mebruer who placed seventh in the high jump with a jump of 1.55 meters.

"We had an amazing day," said SFCC Track and Field Head Coach Brad Hagedorn. "The kids were nervous, and their eyes were quite large when we arrived. However, once the events started, we just clicked off one great performance after another. We are very excited to get back to work on Monday and continue to build on our training foundation."
