Men’s basketball final jamboree recap

The Roadrunners traveled to Carbondale, Illinois, on Sunday, Oct. 22, to participate in the John A. Logan Jamboree. SFCC went 0-3 at the event. The format for the event consisted of two 22-minute running clock halves.

SFCC took on Lakeland Community College in their first scrimmage and fell 54-49.

"It was a back-and-forth game that could have gone either way," said Head Coach Matt Brown. "We had another pretty balanced effort in that game."

Sophomore guard Grant Gelon led in scoring with 13 points. Sophomore guard Andre (A.J.) Walkercontributed 12, dished out a team-high six assists and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Tyreek Scott-Grayson led in blocked shots with two. Sophomore guard Derrick Brock, Jr. led in steals with two.

The Roadrunners took on Wabash Valley College in their second scrimmage and fell 59-46.

"It was another pretty close game that went back-and-forth the whole way through," said Brown. "The difference in this game was their offense. They were also able to make shots down the stretch. We struggled defensively."

Gelon led in scoring with 18 points and tied with Scott-Grayson in rebounds with three each. Scott-Grayson added nine points and recorded a team-high two blocked shots. Walker dished out a team-high six assists.

The Roadrunners played Shawnee Community College in their final scrimmage and lost 52-40.

"The difference in that game was our defense," said Brown. "That's the one area we have to improve between now and the start of the season."

Scott-Grayson led in scoring with 10 points. Walker added eight, dished out five assists and led in steals with three. Sophomore center Isaac Bassey pulled down a team-high five rebounds.

"Defense is the biggest area that we need to improve before the regular season starts," said Brown. "Offensively, I think we will be okay, but our man-to-man defense has a long way to go."

SFCC will open the season on Friday, Nov. 3, against the Missouri Valley College Junior Varsity Vikings in the McDonald's Classic. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus.
